Nibaa never went out to save the world or do battle alongside good and evil. He simply wanted to enjoy the life he was given, protect his family and friends, and make the best of the situation he was dealt. That’s something we can all feel for and strive for in our lives. Even in an alien world, surrounded by elemental beasts, In the Blink of a Dragon’s Eye is a very human story. A slice-of-life take on Nibaa’s journey through being torn from his home and thrown into a dangerous new reality. And if it weren’t for the family he made along the way, he might have succumbed to despair—but he didn’t. He chose to blaze forward and carve his own path in the world of Blight.
Each of the five chapters (and Epilogue) of In the Blink of a Dragon’s Eye are named with the predominant theme of that particular experience in Nibaa's life.
The first being "Arrival" when he is first thrown into the unknown world of Blight. Followed by him finally being able to thrive and call this new world "Home". Then "Soul" where he makes the worst decision of his life. The final two chapters of "Family" and "Dragons" bring to the forefront the question of what is most important to Nibaa and the sacrifices he’ll have to make for them. Finally, the epilogue comes full circle with "Brothers" in a heart-to-heart conversation between the two unlikely brothers: Nibaa and Niijii.
